How to block spam calls and register DND on Jio, Airtel and Vodafone

Telemarketing calls and other spam calls can turn irritating after a certain point. This becomes a major issue, especially when you have a busy day or when you are expecting an important call. On some occasions, you also end up missing important calls due to spam calls In addition to unwanted marketing calls, you may also be getting calls from people pretending to be from your bank, asking you for your account details or card details to dupe you.

So, the question is, how do you block spam calls?

There are several ways in which you can block and report spam calls.

Solution 1: Activating DND on your number

You can block all spam calls and messages by activating DND on your number. Just follow these simple steps:

• Open the Messaging app on your phone.
• Create a new message and type START 0.
• Send it to 1909.

Messages sent to 1909 are free, so you don’t have to worry about the charges.

Additionally, if you would like to block calls only from a specific category like Real Estate, Health etc., follow the steps below:

• Create a new message and type START.
• Send it to 1909.
• You will now get a list of categories with their numbers.
• Reply with the number for the category which you want to block.

Solution 2: Blocking numbers on your phone

You can also block spam calls and messages on your phone.

Many smartphones, including those from OnePlus, Xiaomi and Samsung, allow you to block spam calls and messages.

1. Open the Phone app.
2. Locate the spam number.
3. Press and hold the number and select “Block number”.

Once you block a number, you will not get any calls from them in the future.

Solution 3: Register DND on Jio, Airtel, Vodafone websites

You can also register DND on Jio, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea websites.

Jio DND

To register DND on Jio, follow these steps:

1. Open the MyJio app.
2. Go to Settings → Service settings → Do not disturb.
3. Select the categories you want to block.

Airtel DND

To register DND on Airtel, follow these steps:

1. Go to airtel.in/airtel-dnd.
2. Enter your mobile number and OTP.
3. Select the categories you want to block.

Vodafone DND

To register DND on Vodafone-Idea, follow these steps:

1. Go to discover.vodafone.in/dnd.
2. Enter your mobile number, email address and name.
3. Select the categories you want to block.

• SMS FULLY BLOCK to 1909 for All Categories (to be blocked) except transactional type of commercial communications
• SMS BLOCK PROMO to 1909 for All Categories (to be blocked) except transactional and service type of commercial communications
• SMS BLOCK 1 to 1909 for Banking/Insurance/Financial products/ credit cards,
• SMS BLOCK 2 to 1909 for Real Estate
• SMS BLOCK 3 to 1909 for Education
• SMS BLOCK 4 to 1909 for Health
• SMS BLOCK 5 to 1909 for Consumer goods and automobiles/ Entertainment/IT
• SMS BLOCK 6 to 1909 for Communication/Broadcasting
• SMS BLOCK 7 to 1909 for Tourism and Leisure
• SMS BLOCK 8 to 1909 for Food and Beverages
• SMS UNBLOCK ALL to 1909 for All Categories to be unblocked.
